Only email notification preferences are adjustable today. There isn't yet a way to separately mute in-app or on-screen notifications by category.
In Settings, you can turn each email category on or off individually, choose delivery frequency for a couple of them, or use the All Emails switch to turn off everything optional at once.
Your email notifications are organized into categories, each with its own on/off switch. A few categories also let you choose how often you hear from us.

System & Security emails cover account and security-related messages, so that category stays on regardless of your other settings.
The All Emails switch at the top of your notification settings turns off every optional category in one step. System & Security emails will still come through, since those are essential. If you turn All Emails back on later, each category returns to its sensible default setting rather than staying off.
If you try to turn off the last remaining way you'd hear about new matches, you'll see a small confirmation ("Don't miss your matches") first. It's just a check, not a hard block. You can confirm and proceed if that's what you want.

Can I stop getting notified about new matches entirely?
You can turn off Match Notification emails, but since that's often the last way you'd hear about a new match, you'll see a confirmation prompt ("Don't miss your matches") before it takes effect.
Does turning off All Emails also stop security emails?
No. System & Security emails always continue, since they cover account and security-related messages.
Can I mute in-app notifications the way I can mute emails?
Not yet. Today, notification preferences in Settings only apply to email. There's no separate in-app muting by category.
