You can report an inappropriate message or block someone from the three-dot menu in any conversation. Blocking someone also removes them as a connection in Your Network.
If a conversation feels off, you have two separate tools available directly from the chat: reporting a message and blocking the person. They do different things, and it's worth understanding the difference before you use either.
If someone sends you a message that's inappropriate, open the three-dot menu on that conversation and select the report option. This flags the message for review.
Blocking is also available from the three-dot menu on a conversation. It stops the person from messaging you going forward.
Blocking someone from inside a chat also removes them as a connection in Your Network. This isn't always obvious going in, so it's worth knowing before you block: you're not just muting the conversation, you're ending the connection too.
If you're not sure you want to sever the connection entirely, consider whether reporting alone addresses the situation before you take the additional step of blocking.
