Registering gets you on the list. Checking in is what tells Genius Networking you're actually there, and it's what turns on Event Mode for you.
The event starting and you showing up are two different things, so Genius Networking treats them that way. Checking in is a deliberate step, not something that happens in the background just because the clock hit start time.
This is intentional. It keeps event activity honest and accurate, based on who's genuinely there in person, rather than everyone who simply registered.
If you already have introductions waiting for the event, you'll see a reassuring note rather than any kind of countdown: something like "You already have introductions waiting. We'll help you remember who you meet tonight." There's no rush to check in the second you arrive, but you'll need to do it before Event Mode's in-room features become available.
Do I need to check in even though I already registered?
Yes. Registering reserves your spot; checking in confirms you've actually arrived and turns on Event Mode.
What if I don't see a QR code at the venue?
Some events use a check-in link instead of a QR code: look for that option on the event page if you don't spot the code.
